The Great Hyperspace Wars

As the Republic grew and mapped out the corners of the galaxy, it found at least one unpleasant surprise -- the Sith Empire. This empire was ruled by Dark Lords who were essentially an evil version of the Jedi. These Dark Lords wielded the dark side of the Force as easily and effectively as the Jedi used the light side, and they were merciless in combat.

The two young explorers who stumbled upon the Sith had fled to a random jumppoint while under attack. They arrived at the planet Korriban in uncharted space - the Sith homeworld. They were quickly captured. Although Gav was imprisoned by the Sith Lord Naga Sadow, Jori was allowed to escape in their ship. By tracing the tracking device placed within the ship, the Sith found a hyperspace route back to Republic space, thus igniting a war that would devastate the peaceful Republic. The first conlict was conducted by a small force of Jedi working in conjuction with the Empress Teta system. As the Sith tried again and again to conquer the Republic, they were continuously repelled by the combined forces of the Republic's fleets and the Jedi. However, the titanic battles soon began to take their toll on both sides of the wars.

In a final, cataclysmic battle, the Sith were driven back to their own space, crippled and defeated. The fleets of the Empress Teta system and the Republic pursued the Sith to Korriban in pursuit of the Dark Lord Naga Sadow. After the remainder of the Sith fleet had been destroyed, Sadow caused a nearby system's sun to go nova, decimating the Republic fleet. Although Sadow escaped, the campaign was considered a success by the Republic. They then began the slow process of rebuilding.
