The new government established after the defeat of Palpatine faced many obstacles over the years. It was constantly beset by struggles from within and without. The remnants of the Empire would pose a constant threat, and offered destruction more than once.

Drawing from the same courage and determination that defeated the Empire, though, the heroes of the New Republic would defeat each obstacle. The Galactic Senate was rebuilt, destroyed again, and rebuilt again. The numerous atrocities of the Empire and Palpatine were addressed, and systems were liberated all over the galaxy. The Republic was built again from the ground up, and the New Republic would eventually cement itself as the seat of galactic government. A history peace treaty was signed between the New Republic and its old foe, the Imperial Remnant. After nearly 20 years of war, it looked like peace was finally on the horizon.

Nearly 30 years after its inception, however, the New Republic would finally meet its match -- the Yuuzhan Vong.
