TransFormers: The Comics (US)
Another merchandising tool used by Hasbro to sell their Transformer toys was a comic series from Marvel Comics. The series was initially a 4-issue series but ended up running for 80 issues and numerous spin-offs and crossovers. Among the most popular of the spin-offs were the 4-issue Headmasters series and a G.I.Joe/COBRA crossover.
The comic series was a seperate entity from the cartoon, and as a result the two now present us with two different continuities -- different origins, different events, different deaths, even different characters! The comic became a success anyway, though, and covered in great detail the interaction between Transformers and humans. In my humble opinion, the series should be required reading for any TF fan. And, well, if you don't own the comics or can't find a copy, see the first link below:
In April of 2002 a new line of TransFormers comics was launched by Dreamwave Productions. The ongoing series is now on volume 3 of its run, and is extremely popular. Featuring awesome artwork and storylines, the new comic is a must for any TF fan. See the Transformer News section of the main page for details on the current issue. Also, the entire Marvel run is now available in several trade paperbacks.
